EXPERIENCE

Hobart Site Manager (seconded), AEC Federal Election Ballot Scanning Project April 2016 – August 2016 and March 2019 – June 2019
Fuji Xerox Document Management Solutions, Mornington, Tasmania
As part of the 2016 Federal Election, Fuji Xerox was contracted to receive completed Senate ballot papers, scan these, and capture preferences. This was required for all Australian State and Territories and Tasmania was the only state nationally where Fuji Xerox didn’t have a local site that could be used for this purpose. As the Site Manager it was my responsibility to
-
-
- Canvas potential sites and choose location
- Organise fit-out and IT setup of site
- Organise labour hire agency staff
- Prep site according to AEC security standards
-
During the production phase I was responsible for
-
-
- Day to day running of the site (receipt of ballots, scanning, data entry, storage)
- Communication with national Fuji Xerox teams on progress and issues
- Communication with AEC staff and public observers
- Diagnosing and resolving issues
-
Despite a relatively short setup period, and the fact that this was the first time electronic processing of election ballots had occurred in Australia’s history, the full processing was completed on time and with full accountability and reconciliation of all ballots received (in Tasmania and across Australia).
Fuji Xerox retained this work for the 2019 federal election. As the previous Hobart location was no longer available, I again was tasked with finding a suitable location and setting this up. Again, we overcame technical challenges to complete and reconcile the state of Tasmania ahead of schedule.
